What is Wortel Books
Wortel Books, Ltd. is a vibrant new children's books publisher based in Jakarta,
Indonesia. It was founded in 2006 by a team of book lovers who have had the
privilege of experiencing both Eastern and Western cultures throughout their lives.
Such an experience enables them to gain an insight into the educational and
entertainment needs of children in their own home country of Indonesia.
The name Wortel (Indonesian for "carrot") stands for our commitment to
encouraging children to read and expanding their horizons by nurturing their love
for literature, and above all else, letting them have fun with the written word. We
hope to achieve this by publishing both translated works by international authors
and quality works by budding local authors.
Wortel has a diverse management team with backgrounds ranging from
Engineering to Business to Psychology. In spite of the diversity, they are solidly
united by their passion for literature and by their commitment to make a difference
in their lives. Some of them have even left their rat races as Public Accountants
and Engineers to pursue this noble goal.

appropriate reading materials.
- Help children develop their language skills early, a necessity in today’s
increasingly global world, through first-rate translation and bilingual
publications.
- Introduce children to a diverse variety of reading subjects and expose them
to various cultures and perspectives in lives to broaden their horizon.
- Above all, allow children to have fun because, hey, childhood doesn't
happen twice, and don't we know it.
